New Year, New Things To Do

This was the second year of having goats on this farm. I am pretty sure they have been the best few years of my life. This was the best year of the two. Lot's of things happened, Uhura had triplets on March 18, all boys. I went out one morning and had the feed bucket to lure them to the pasture. Uhura got in front of me with her placenta hanging out of her, now picture me stopping, dropping the bucket, and setting off screaming to the pen there were two beautiful baby boys, Peter and Prancer. I picked them up, one under each arm and ran to the house, please note, Uhura was following me the whole time screaming at me to put her babies down. I was screaming to, in excitement. By the time I was calmed down, we had already put down fresh straw in the pen and started cuddling with the babies. We started hearing tiny, little, weak baby calls, we watched the two babies very closely, it wasn't either of them I searched the pen, it wasn't that big, what could it be, I looked in a bucket that had been there the whole time, a little buckling had somehow gotten in there. He was very weak and didn't make it. It was very upsetting for me, to see such a sweet, innocent soul depart from this earth so early in his life. I made the best of it and got to know Peter and Prancer. I thought they were the cutest things I had ever seen ever. That is, until Lily came along. On March 31st I awoke to hear my dad screaming up the stairs, "Baby goats! Baby goats! Baby goats!" I scrambled into cutoff jeans and a tank top. I didn't even put on shoes I just ran out to the barn, the night before I had sensed that Wendy was getting close. I had put her in the nursery, at that time the nursery had been about 8x4 not big enough for her to have, 1, 2, 3, 4 babies in! One baby was still born, not big enough to have lived. And then I saw her, a baby angel goat come to earth, come to me! She was tiny about as long as a Barbie and only weighed about two pounds. Her brother, Jaimy, was almost a perfect replica of her, except the ears, Lily had hers mommy's ears, Long and pygmy, Jaimy had his dad's ears, tiny and La Mancha. And he was quiet a bit bigger. The 4th baby, another boy, had his head stuck in Wendy's feed bucket, we thought he was already dead, he was, almost, so weak he couldn't even lift his head. The poor thing died about an half and hour later. And I was already smitten with her. I lived Lily. She was my life. We had a whole summer together. I am pretty sure it was the best summer of my life. I sold Peter, Prancer and Jaimy to the same farm and they are pretty happy there, I think. We had lots of things happen this year, bad and good.

Whew, long post, my fingers are tired.
Good night and Nanny Blessings.

Chickens and Uhura

Why Huey, why? A chicken on your back? You don't know where it's been!

Gold Again

Does it look like she is going to have babies soon? I think it does.

Gold, hasn't your mother told you not to chew with your mouth open? Silver has the same problem.

I made Lasagna! Doesn't it look good?
First, I put down some homemade red-sauce. Then I put down lasagna noodles, I put a light layer of ricotta over the noodles. My dad sprinkled mozzarella and parmesan cheese over that, then I added spinach and bits of red pepper. Then I added another layer of the same stuff in the same order. I don't like meat in my lasagna!

Scary Wendy

It would seem that Wendy is the blogs comedian. Look at her! She's gone off the deep end!
Have you seen what my daughter is doing? She is making a fool of herself in front of the whole blogging world!
She was much cuter when she was a kid. On that note, have you heard? Malory at Priscilla's had a bouncing, baby boy!

Wendy Has Something to Say

Caption this photo, what do you think Wendy is saying?
I think she's trying to tell us that pine needles are poky.
Click on the picture to get a good look, then, try not to fall out of your chair laughing. If you fall out of your chair and get hurt, it's not my fault, you can't sue me.
Now, if you will excuse me, I have to go primp for my soccer game.

Me, Explaining What Happened

You may have noticed that a couple of days ago I posted that I thought Zelda was going into labor. She was. I went to bed at around 12:38 at night after watching some TV with my dad. My brother proceeded to wake me up at 2:30 in the morning tell me that Zelda had a full leg sticking out of her, non-plural, leg not legs. As soon as I got out there I knew something was wrong, the leg was ice-cold and had no hair. I had a bad feeling in my gut telling me that this was a stillborn baby. Since there was only one leg I had to go in and correct the babies position. I had never done this in my life. How did I get the baby out in time to save Zelda? I don't know, it might have something to do with having small hands. I delivered the baby by breach. I kept thinking of a banana like the Deliveries page at GoatWisdom said. I got the baby out and sure enough, it was still born. By this time it was almost 3:00 in the morning. I stayed out another hour and a half. Nothing else happened, I knew I should at least see the placenta by now, but no, nothing was happening. I bounced her and couldn't feel anything so I gave her warm water a some grain, I went inside had some hot chocolate and read a book, I had to much adrenalin in my system to go to sleep, so I stayed up and I continually checked on her. The time my brother went to check on her she had another stillbaby in with her. At this point she was completely exhausted and sad. I could tell that she had wanted babies, but she didn't get any. To my knowledge she still hadn't passed her placenta. She might have and then at it, but I just didn't think she had. She grew worse and had very bad diarrhea, she was very weak and she was crying for Zoe. Anytime I let her out the pen she was in she started to trot over to the big girls pen. of course, her legs weren't very strong so she kept stumbling and almost falling over. I couldn't let her go by the other big girls because I was afraid they would head-butt her and get her hurt. I brought Zoe over by her in the corn-crib and they snuggled for awhile. Eventually I had to put her away and Zelda got lonely again. She still had very bad diarrhea that smelled horrendous. I kept giving her fresh water and food. She slowly improved and now she's almost back to normal. I think that I will never let Tinky near the girls again unsupervised. I want nothing like this to happen ever again. I have to go to bed now, I have a very important soccer game tomorrow. I'm playing against my sisters team. It's the tiebreaker for 1st place. I'm under pressure!!!

Just This Joke I Love

Okay, so this guy is making a really nice dinner for him and his girlfriend. They are Just about to sit down and eat when the doorbell rings. The guy gets up and answers it, it's a snail wanting to know if he wants to buy a magazine subscription. He's really mad because the snail interrupted their dinner, so he hauls back and kicks the snail to the end of the driveway. He sits back down and finishes dinner. Two years go by and him and his girlfriend get married and have a baby girl. Then one day when his wife and baby are at the doctor. There is a knock at the door. He answers and it's the snail. The snail takes one look at him and says, "What the heck was that for?!".

I just love this picture of Uhura. She looks so cute!

Zelda's In Labor!!!

I know she was before, but now she's serious. She's got bloody goo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

She's Got Goo!

Zelda's got goo. She hasn't got ligaments. I know this because I read something on ligaments on some blog and realized that I wasn't supposed to actually feel along her spine, I was supposed to feel for something shaped like diagonal pencils. I tried on all my goats and Zelda doesn't have any! I think this is a good 100th post. Fingers crossed! We might meet Oasis soon!

Snow Drift in the Garage

Look at this snow drift, there is a crack at the bottom of the garage door. The wind swooped the snow up and shoved it all under here, making a very strange shape
Thats a yard stick stuck in there, a whole yard!
That means that it's taller then a yard. Just so you don't get confused. 36 inches or 91 centimeters!
That is a lot of snow!
On something that has completely nothing to do with snow.
I'm milking Zelda a tiny bit everyday just to see what her milk looks like, and it's getting more yellow. Colostrum? Or is it just changing?

100 posts

I need a special post for the 100th post. Which means I need ideas, which means you people need to suggest things to blog about. Suggest something in comments. Then we will have an 100th post! Oh yeah, the blizzard hit. I heard about that big dome thing's roof falling in. That would be cool to see, maybe I'll have to visit, in my mind apparently.

More Snow and Other Things

We got even more snow, but it's not that cold so I guess it's okay. Me, my littlest sister and Marn were out sledding at 9:30 P.M. It was sooo fun. The snow isn't very packable, but it's great to sled on. Very slippery. That's the snow part. The other thing is that I'm pretty sure Zoe had a miscarriage. The kid that she had was obviously very under developed. Her placenta was also very small. Does the size of the placenta have anything to do with the size of the baby? I hope the baby is off in a very nice meadow across Rainbow Bridge.

The Goats and Mumu (and Zelda's Udder)

I let the goats out to go in the ditch because thats the only place that still has grass. Look who I saw.
Look who he saw.
Look at how Mumu ran away.
Now look at Zelda's Udder. Look at how big it is. I even got a little bit of milk! But I didn't milk her. Her babies will need the milk when they get here.

The Cats

Sully has different colored eyes, one is more green and one is more yellow. She's my cat, I got her when I was seven.
I wonder if it has something to do with her being blind in one of them?
Dixie has beautiful, luminous green eyes. They get as big as saucers when she's scared! She's my littlest sister's.
Billie, the kitten. She's Marn's cat. He got her for his birthday two years ago.
She has greenish yellow eyes. It's hard to tell a lot of the time.

Snow and Snow Goats

Zelda and Zoe say "Hi".
Gold and Silver say "Hi".
Uhura says: Why are you taking a picture of me? I haven't done my beard yet.
Wendy says "Hi".
And Tinky Says "Aloha!!"
Uhura says: Guess what? You'll never believe it, OK, maybe you will, I don't know. But, we got snow. It's horrible.
We have to go talk to our lawyer about this. We are trying to get the humans to move somewhere that's warm year round. Now let's go. We're going to be late.
